Dragon Quest XI features a wide array of side quests that expand the world and reward observant players. One of the most heartwarming side activities in the game is titled Up Where They Walk. This quest sends players on a journey to help a nostalgic mermaid reconnect with a cherished memory from the surface world.
Starting Location and Quest Requirements
To begin this quest, you must travel to the underwater kingdom of Nautica after completing your initial audience with Queen Marina. Look for a mermaid client located outside the main palace area. She will ask you to locate a human singer whose music she adored many years ago.
Understanding the quest parameters requires recognizing that time passes differently for land dwellers compared to sea creatures. The boy who originally sang the song has since grown into an elderly man. To track him down, you will need to fast-travel to the coastal city of Gondolia.
Finding the Singer in Gondolia
Once you arrive in Gondolia, navigate toward the northwestern side of the city. Look for an old man standing near the base of the northwestern tower. Speaking with him will initiate a special dialogue sequence where he shares the nostalgia of his youth.
The old man will gladly teach your hero the classic melody he used to perform. Learning the song takes only a moment, and no complex battles or item crafting are required for this phase. Once you have learned the tune, your objective in Gondolia is complete.
Returning to Nautica for Rewards
Return to Nautica by using Zoom or taking your ship back to the sea portal. Revisit the mermaid outside the palace and perform the song for her. She will be deeply moved by hearing the familiar melody once again.
Completing the quest yields valuable experience and items that help you on your larger adventure across Erdrea. Taking the time to finish these simple errand quests ensures your party stays well-equipped for future challenges.
